MINI has opened pre-bookings for the Cooper Oxford Edition in India. The limited-run model is based on the Cooper S and adds a range of styling and interior details inspired by Oxford in the UK, where MINI has its historical roots.

The Oxford Edition retains the same mechanical package as the regular Cooper S, while gaining a number of Union Jack-themed design elements. MINI has not yet announced the price or the number of units allocated for India.

MINI Cooper Oxford Edition: What’s different?

The Oxford Edition gets a choice of two exterior colours — Indigo Sunset Blue and Chilli Red. Both versions feature Glazed White outside rear-view mirrors, along with several Union Jack-inspired graphics.

The bonnet and tailgate receive decorative stripes, while the roof gets a Union Jack graphic. There is also a combined Union Jack and chequered-flag graphic on the boot lid.

The special edition rides on 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, which feature blue and red centre caps. Union Jack-themed valve caps add another small styling detail.

The core design remains familiar from the standard Cooper S, including the circular LED headlights, octagonal grille and Union Jack-style signatures within the LED tail-lamps.

MINI Cooper Oxford Edition interior and features

The cabin largely retains the layout of the regular Cooper, but gets additional detailing to distinguish the Oxford Edition. It features grey-and-beige fabric trim along with black JCW Sport-spec seats.

Union Jack motifs are incorporated into the floor mats, steering wheel and infotainment interface. The door sills carry Oxford branding with blue and red detailing, while the key fob also receives a matching design.

Equipment includes a 9.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a panoramic glass roof and a Harman Kardon audio system. Other features include automatic climate control, wireless smartphone charging, a heated steering wheel, powered front seats and navigation.

The driver’s seat gets memory and massage functions, while connected-car functionality and over-the-air software updates are also available.

Safety equipment includes Level 1 ADAS, front and rear parking sensors, a rear-view camera and a tyre pressure monitoring system. The car also gets an auto-dimming interior rear-view mirror.

MINI Cooper Oxford Edition engine and gearbox

The Oxford Edition uses the same 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine as the standard Cooper S. It produces 204 HP and 300 Nm and sends power to the front wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

MINI claims a 0-100 km/hr acceleration time of 6.6 seconds, while the claimed fuel-efficiency figure stands at 16.82 km/l.

There are no mechanical upgrades with the Oxford Edition, with the changes focused instead on its appearance and equipment.

MINI Cooper Oxford Edition price and rivals

MINI has yet to announce pricing for the Oxford Edition in India. Given its limited-run positioning and additional design elements, it is expected to cost more than the regular Cooper S.

The brand has previously introduced limited editions of the Cooper S in India, including the GP Inspired Edition. The Oxford Edition follows a similar approach by using a special theme and additional equipment to differentiate the hatchback from the standard model.

The final price, availability and number of units allocated to India will determine how it compares with the regular Cooper S and other premium hatchbacks available in the market.
