Air India and Air India Express on Thursday announced a revision in fuel surcharge on domestic and select international routes, citing a continued rise in Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) prices. The airlines said volatility in ATF prices in recent months, driven largely by geopolitical developments and sustained pressure on global energy markets, has pushed up operating costs.
Under the revised one-way domestic surcharge, passengers will pay Rs 400 for flights up to 500 km, Rs 600 for 501-1,000 km, Rs 850 for 1,001-1,500 km and Rs 1,200 for flights between 1,501-2,000 km and above 2,000 km.
For international sectors, the revised one-way fuel surcharge is $215 for North America, $210 for Australia, $135 for Europe including the UK, and $55 for West Asia/Middle East.
The airlines said fuel continues to account for a substantial proportion of their overall expenditure, with the latest increase in fuel prices further raising operating costs.
