Ahmedabad News: Travelling to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport in Ahmedabad by cab has become costlier from October 1, with the airport operator introducing a new Rs 50 drop-off charge for commercial taxis and increasing the existing pick-up charge from Rs 150 to Rs 200.

The revised charges apply to commercial yellow-plate vehicles, including app-based cab services such as Ola, Uber, Rapido and Bharat Taxi, as well as other commercial taxis. The airport operator said the access charges are part of the arrangements for managing landside facilities and traffic at the airport.

Rs 50 Charge Applies Even For Cab Drop-Offs

Under the new arrangement, a commercial cab dropping a passenger at the airport will have to pay Rs 50, even if the vehicle does not wait for the passenger. The additional charge is currently not integrated into fares displayed by cab aggregators. As a result, passengers may be asked by drivers to pay the Rs 50 separately at the time of drop-off.

With the new fee being applicable to commercial vehicles, the overall cost of an airport cab journey is expected to rise for passengers travelling to SVPI Airport.

Pick-Up Charge Hiked From Rs 150 To Rs 200

The airport has also increased the charge for commercial taxis picking up passengers from Rs 150 to Rs 200. This means a passenger booking a commercial cab from the airport may have to pay the higher airport access charge in addition to the fare shown for the journey, depending on how the operator and driver account for the charge.

The airport operator has said that commercial vehicle access charges are an established practice at airports and help meet expenses related to security, electricity, infrastructure maintenance, traffic management, sanitation and other landside facilities.

Commercial Taxi Parking Area Shifted

The revised charges come with a change in the designated parking arrangement for commercial taxis. The designated parking area for commercial taxis has been shifted from the vicinity of Terminal 2 (T2) to a new location near Airport Circle, next to Hotel Ummed, as reported by Desh Gujarat.

Taxi operators will now be required to use the designated area rather than parking near T2.

Terminal 1 Kerbside Parking Charges

Apart from the new commercial taxi access charges, parking and kerbside rules also apply to vehicles using the terminal area.

At Terminal 1, private and non-commercial vehicles get an eight-minute free pick-up window at the kerbside. After the free period, parking charges apply according to the vehicle type and duration. The airport’s official parking information confirms the eight-minute free pick-up provision for private/non-commercial vehicles.

For commercial cars, the revised tariff being reported for the T1 kerbside is:

Duration Commercial Car Charge
Up to 8 minutes Rs 200
30-60 minutes Rs 300
Every additional hour up to 4 hours Rs 100
4-24 hours Rs 1,200

For private four-wheelers, the reported charges are:

Duration Private Four-Wheeler Charge
8-30 minutes Rs 150
30-60 minutes Rs 200
Every additional hour up to 4 hours Rs 100

The airport’s online parking page currently displays tariff information for different parking zones and vehicle categories, although some of the detailed commercial-vehicle figures shown online do not yet appear to reflect the October 1 revision.

Terminal 2 Also Gets Revised Cab Charges

At Terminal 2, commercial cabs are subject to the revised Rs 200 pick-up charge and Rs 50 drop-off charge.

Charges can increase further depending on how long a commercial vehicle remains within the applicable area.

Passengers should therefore avoid asking drivers to wait unnecessarily at the terminal and should use designated pick-up arrangements to minimise additional charges and congestion.

Private Vehicles Are Not Covered By The New Rs 50 Access Fee

The new Rs 50 drop-off access charge applies to commercial vehicles, rather than passengers arriving in private cars.

According to the airport operator’s clarification reported by The Times of India, passengers being dropped off in private vehicles will not have to pay the new commercial-vehicle access fee.

However, private vehicles remain subject to the applicable parking and kerbside rules if they stay beyond the permitted free period.

Airport Advises Passengers To Check Their Terminal

SVPI Airport currently operates both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, with terminal-specific transport arrangements. The airport says pick-up points are available at both terminals, while its current passenger information also lists designated lanes for arrivals and departures.

The airport also provides a complimentary inter-terminal shuttle service between T1 and T2 for passengers who need to transfer between terminals.

Passengers are advised to check their airline and terminal details before leaving for the airport, particularly as Air India and Air India Express flights shifted to Terminal 2 from March 29, 2026.

What Cab Passengers Need To Know

For passengers using app-based or commercial taxis, the key changes from October 1 are:

  • Drop-off charge: Rs 50
  • Pick-up charge: Rs 200, up from Rs 150
  • Applicable vehicles: Commercial yellow-plate taxis, including app-based cabs and other commercial taxi operators
  • Commercial taxi parking: Shifted from near T2 to the area near Airport Circle, next to Hotel Ummed
  • Aggregator fares: The new access fee may not be included in the fare displayed on the cab app, meaning passengers may be asked to pay it separately
  • Private vehicles: Not subject to the new Rs 50 commercial-vehicle access fee, but applicable parking and kerbside charges still apply.

The changes are part of the airport operator’s revised arrangements for commercial vehicle access and traffic management at SVPI Airport.
