Mumbai News: Metro Line 9 Phase 2 is moving into a crucial pre-commissioning stage, with signalling integration and train trials scheduled to begin as work advances towards opening the new stretch to passengers.
Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Limited (MMMOCL) will conduct the testing between September 15 and 25, 2026, using a dedicated early-morning non-revenue window. As a result, services on Metro Lines 2A, 7 and Line 9 Phase 1 will start at 6.30 am during these 10 days, instead of their regular timings.
The temporary change will allow technical teams to carry out signalling software migration, testing and validation without disrupting the operational network during passenger hours.
Why The Morning Block Is Needed
Line 9 Phase 2 will have to operate in coordination with the existing Metro network, including Lines 2A, 7 and Line 9 Phase 1. This makes signalling integration a key requirement before the new section can be opened for regular passenger services.
Since the existing corridors continue to run trains during revenue hours, MMMOCL will use the early-morning block as a controlled window for the technical work.
The exercise will be carried out through the Operations Control Centre (OCC) at Charkop Depot, where teams will oversee the migration and testing of the signalling software.
Signalling Software Ready For Speed Trials
The software required to move ahead with speed trials on Line 9 Phase 2 has now been made available, clearing the way for the next round of testing, as reported by Mid-day.
During the trials, technical teams will check the signalling system’s performance and its interaction with the existing operational network. The aim is to establish that the new section can be integrated safely and reliably before commissioning.
The testing will also help validate the signalling arrangements under controlled conditions before passenger operations begin.

As part of the special block, commuters using Metro Lines 2A, 7 and Line 9 Phase 1 should note that services will begin at 6.30 am from September 15 to September 25, 2026.
