Delhi To Jewar Airport In Just An Hour? The New Route That Could Make It Possible

Travelling from East Delhi to Noida International Airport in Jewar could soon become faster, with the Noida Authority granting final alignment approval for a proposed 50-km elevated expressway connecting Delhi with the airport. The project is aimed at improving airport connectivity, reducing travel times and easing pressure on existing roads in the region.

According to a News24 report, the proposed corridor will begin near Akshardham Temple and connect directly to Noida International Airport. Around 27 km of the 50-km stretch will fall within Noida. The project is currently in the Detailed Project Report (DPR) stage.

The elevated expressway is estimated to cost around Rs 4,000 crore. The main corridor will have six lanes, while the entry stretches will be widened to eight lanes to reduce the possibility of bottlenecks. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will be responsible for both construction and long-term maintenance of the project. Before construction begins, NHAI will conduct soil testing along the proposed alignment to assess the ground’s load-bearing capacity.

The project initially proposed an alignment directly along the Yamuna River embankment. However, the Uttar Pradesh Irrigation Department raised concerns over possible flooding and structural safety risks. Following these concerns, authorities shifted the proposed alignment five metres towards the Noida side. The revised alignment has now received final approval.

A 120-metre-wide road from Noida Sector 94, running alongside the embankment, will serve as the main access route to the elevated expressway. The connection is expected to improve access to the airport from several parts of Delhi and Noida once the project becomes operational.

Delhi To Jewar Airport In Around An Hour? The proposed 50-km corridor is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Delhi and Noida International Airport. The journey could take around 60-70 minutes once the expressway becomes operational. Residents of Mayur Vihar, Patparganj, IP Extension, Kalindi Kunj and Sarita Vihar are expected to benefit from improved airport connectivity. The corridor will also provide a connection to Faridabad through the Manjhawali bridge.

Expressway To Connect With Major NCR Routes: The elevated corridor is also expected to become an important link in the National Capital Region’s wider road network. Once completed, the 50-km stretch will connect with several major expressways, strengthening road connectivity between Delhi, Noida, Faridabad and the Jewar airport.

Road connectivity is not the only major project being planned for Noida International Airport. The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has also unveiled plans for a 72.44-km transit corridor connecting Ghaziabad with Noida International Airport. The proposed corridor will use a hybrid rapid rail and metro model, allowing passengers to use both regional rapid transit and local Metro services.

The proposed transit system will have 11 Namo Bharat stations for faster regional journeys and 18 Metro stations for shorter local trips. The corridor will connect Ghaziabad, Noida and Noida International Airport, giving passengers different options depending on the length of their journey. According to NCRTC, the corridor will connect the Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat Ghaziabad station with Jewar airport.

The project is planned to be largely elevated, with the proposal including an underground section of around 1.29 km. Together, the proposed elevated expressway and the rapid rail-Metro corridor are expected to create multiple road and public transport links to Noida International Airport, which is set to become an important aviation hub for the NCR.
