Volkswagen Virtus Facelift Teased With New Design & 8-Speed AT

Volkswagen has released the first teaser of the updated Virtus, offering a glimpse of the exterior changes planned for the midsize sedan. The facelift will mark the model’s first major update since its Indian debut in June 2022 and is expected to bring styling revisions, additional equipment and a new automatic transmission option.
The teaser reveals changes at both ends of the sedan, including redesigned lighting elements, a revised grille, a new front bumper and fresh alloy wheels. Volkswagen is also expected to introduce several feature upgrades, some of which will be shared with the recently updated Taigun.
Volkswagen Virtus facelift: Exterior design changes
At the front, the facelifted Virtus gets a redesigned bumper with revised detailing and gloss-finished elements. The fog lamp housings have also been reworked and now appear to incorporate smaller, cube-shaped lighting units.
The grille has received minor revisions and appears to feature an illuminated Volkswagen logo. The teaser also reveals a red GT badge, suggesting that the sporty GT variant will continue to be part of the lineup.
The headlights have been updated with revised LED daytime running lamps positioned below the main lighting units. However, the chrome strip connecting the two headlight units appears to have been carried over from the current model.
In profile, the most noticeable change is the new alloy wheel design. The GT variant showcased in the teaser features black-finished alloys, while other variants are expected to receive dual-tone wheels. The wheel size is likely to remain unchanged at 16 inches.
Another notable addition is the camera hardware integrated into the outside rearview mirrors. This points towards the introduction of a 360-degree camera system, which would be a useful addition to the Virtus’ equipment list.
At the rear, the facelifted sedan gets revised LED lighting elements within the existing tail-lamp housings. The rear bumper, black lower section and boot-lid spoiler appear largely unchanged.
Volkswagen Virtus facelift: Expected interior and feature upgrades
Volkswagen is expected to retain the overall dashboard layout of the current Virtus, although the facelift could introduce a few notable equipment upgrades.
The updated sedan is likely to get a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, similar to the one offered with the facelifted Taigun. The existing 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen could also receive an updated user interface along with integrated AI-based functions.
Other expected additions include the aforementioned 360-degree camera system and improvements to the air-conditioning system through a revised compressor for better cooling performance.
Features such as ventilated and electrically adjustable front seats, a single-pane sunroof and wireless phone charging are expected to continue. Volkswagen is yet to confirm the complete equipment list for the updated sedan.
Volkswagen Virtus facelift: Engine and transmission details
The engine lineup is expected to remain unchanged, with the facelifted Virtus continuing with the familiar 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre turbo-petrol options.
The 1.0-litre TSI engine produces 115 HP and is currently offered with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. With the facelift, Volkswagen is expected to replace the latter with a new 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
The more powerful 1.5-litre TSI engine, which develops 150hp, is expected to retain its 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. This engine is likely to continue being offered alongside the existing manual and automatic configurations available across the range.
These mechanical updates are expected to bring the Virtus in line with the transmission changes introduced across Volkswagen and Skoda’s updated models.
Volkswagen Virtus facelift: Expected price and rivals
The updated Virtus is expected to command a price premium over the outgoing model, which was priced between Rs. 10.71 lakh and Rs. 19.20 lakh (ex-showroom).
Once launched, it will continue to compete with the Skoda Slavia, Hyundai Verna and Honda City in India’s midsize sedan segment.
With refreshed styling, additional technology and a new automatic gearbox for the 1.0-litre TSI variant, Volkswagen will look to keep the Virtus competitive against its established rivals. The extent of the upgrades and revised pricing will become clearer closer to its official launch.
