A late-night birthday celebration turned fatal in southwest Delhi’s Kishangarh after a 17-year-old boy allegedly rented a luxury Audi through an app-based service and rammed it into three vehicles and a pedestrian. The incident took place near a CNG pump at the Kishangarh red light close to Vasant Kunj.

The victim, identified as 45-year-old local resident Umashankar, sustained critical injuries after being hit by the speeding luxury vehicle. He was immediately rushed to the JPN Apex Trauma Centre, where attending medical staff declared him dead on arrival.

App Rental Scrutiny and Police Action

Investigators revealed that the teenager had booked the Audi for one night for Rs 16,000 to celebrate a friend’s birthday. Following the collision, Delhi Police apprehended the juvenile driver and produced him before the Juvenile Justice Board. An official FIR has been lodged at Kishangarh police station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita—including Section 281 for rash driving and Section 106(1) for causing death by negligence—alongside charges under the Motor Vehicles Act for underage driving.

Car Leasing Firm Under Investigation

The crash has turned intense spotlight onto the car rental platform that facilitated the reservation for an underage driver. Law enforcement officials have issued formal notices to the rental company demanding complete records of the transaction.
