Heading To Navi Mumbai Airport? Free Shuttle, Rs 170-Buses, Uber And Bharat Taxi

Navi Mumbai Airport News: Concerns over limited and expensive ways to reach Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) are set to ease as the airport expands its ground transport network with new state-run buses, private bus services, taxis, autos and a free shuttle connecting the city’s two airports.

The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) will begin e-Shivai electric bus services from NMIA on October 7, initially connecting the airport with Dadar, Borivali and Pune. Fares have been fixed at Rs 170 for Dadar East, Rs 210 for Borivali and Rs 450 for Pune. The Dadar service will operate via Sion and Atal Setu, while the Borivali route will connect NMIA with Mumbai’s Terminal 1, Bandra and Atal Setu. The Pune route will have two daily services, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Services connecting Thane and Nashik are planned by mid-November.

For commuters from Mumbai, Chalo Bus currently operates 21 daily services linking NMIA with Marol in Andheri East, Bandra, Dadar and the World Trade Centre in Colaba. Additional capacity is being added during peak periods to handle passenger and employee movement. Within Navi Mumbai, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT) operates seven dedicated airport routes. The A1-A7 services connect Terminal 1 with Kharkopar, Targhar, Belapur, Nerul, Panvel, Khandeshwar and the Airport Project Office. Belapur and Nerul services run every 15-20 minutes during peak hours, while further connectivity to Vashi and Panvel is planned.

Free Hourly Shuttle Between Mumbai And Navi Mumbai Airports: One of the biggest changes for passengers transferring between the two airports will be a complimentary shuttle running every hour between NMIA and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA). The service will be operated by Cityflo, Aarya and Chalo, giving passengers a direct option between the two airports without having to arrange a separate paid transfer.

More Taxi And Auto Options Coming: Bharat Taxi will begin operations at NMIA from October 10 with a dedicated fleet of up to 40 vehicles. Passengers will also have access to prepaid taxis, prepaid autorickshaws and car rentals. Uber Go and Uber Premier will provide app-based options for short- and medium-distance journeys, while Uber Auto will cater to passengers looking for on-demand autorickshaws for shorter trips.

Nearly 4,600 Vehicles And Buses Planned: NMIA said its overall ground transport capacity is being scaled up to 4,594 vehicles and buses. This includes 3,787 app-based taxis, 184 rental cars, 171 autos and 547 buses. The airport is also putting dedicated mobility zones, signage, wayfinding systems and on-ground passenger assistance in place for buses, shuttles, arrivals, departures and private vehicles.

The expansion comes ahead of the winter flight schedule, which will run from October 25, 2026, to March 27, 2027. NMIA is also connected to nearby suburban railway stations and major road corridors, while Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1 is operational and a proposed Metro Line 8 is expected to eventually link NMIA with CSMIA. For passengers, the immediate takeaway is that reaching NMIA will no longer depend as heavily on private cars or regular taxis, with cheaper bus fares, more fixed-route services and a free inter-airport transfer now being added to the mix.
