Check Route, Stations And Timeline

Gurugram Metro News: The World Bank has approved a revised Rs 1,409 crore loan proposal for the second phase of the Gurugram Metro, bringing the 13-km corridor from Sector 9 to Cyber Hub a step closer to construction. The tender for the project is currently being evaluated by senior officials of Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) and the Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC), officials said on Tuesday. The loan proposal was submitted to the World Bank in June. Once the tender is approved, the tendering process will be initiated, as reported by Hindustan Times.

Which Metro Corridor Will The Loan Fund? The revised tender covers major civil construction works, including track laying, station construction and certain double-decker sections of the corridor. A senior GMRL official said the traction and design components were removed from the tender because the World Bank was not funding the entire estimated requirement of Rs 2,700 crore. The official said the revised proposal has now been approved and is being evaluated by senior GMRL officials, including the managing director.

Which Areas Will Gurugram Metro Phase 2 Cover? The proposed 13-km Sector 9-Cyber Hub corridor will have 14 stations, including Sector 7, Sector 4, Sector 5, Ashok Vihar, Sector 3, Bajghera Road, Palam Vihar Extension, Palam Vihar, Sector 23A, Sector 22, Udyog Vihar Phase 4, Udyog Vihar Phase 5 and Cyber City. The corridor will also include a spur towards Gurugram railway station. The new line is planned to provide interchange facilities with the existing Rapid Metro as well as the Namo Bharat Rail corridor, helping improve connectivity across Gurugram.

What About The First Phase? Work on the first phase of the Gurugram Metro is also progressing. The tender for the Metro depot is currently under evaluation and is likely to be awarded within a month, according to GMRL officials. Meanwhile, construction on the Millennium City Centre-Sector 9 corridor has gathered pace, with three pier caps already laid. The first U-shaped girders are scheduled to be launched on August 28 near the Sector 40 traffic signal.

When Will Metro Girders Be Launched? The U-shaped girders, each measuring 28 metres in length, are being cast at the Sector 33 casting yard. Once ready, they will be transported to the construction site and launched using heavy cranes, officials said. Land acquisition near Islampur and Basai is also being expedited for the proposed Metro depot and station.

A high-level meeting is scheduled to take place in Chandigarh this week to review the progress of the project. GMRL Managing Director Chander Shekhar Khare said the project remains a high priority and that efforts are being made to stay on schedule. “This is a high-priority project, and all efforts are being made to meet the timelines,” Khare said. However, an exact date for when passengers will be able to start travelling on the Phase 2 corridor has not yet been announced. The project must first move through the tendering, construction and other implementation stages.
