Indian Railways News: The service is expected to benefit passengers travelling back to Bengaluru after the Onam holiday period, while also providing additional rail capacity during one of the year’s busiest festive travel periods between Karnataka and Kerala.
Bengaluru News: Passengers travelling between Bengaluru and Kochi will have more seats to choose from as the Vande Bharat Express on the route is set to get double its existing seating capacity from August 17.
The South Western Railway (SWR) said train number 26651/26652, the KSR Bengaluru-Ernakulam-KSR Bengaluru Vande Bharat Express, will operate with 16 coaches instead of the existing eight coaches from both KSR Bengaluru and Ernakulam stations, with effect from August 17.
Vande Bharat To Run With 16 Coaches
According to a report in Deccan Herald, the increase in coaches will double the seating capacity of the Bengaluru-Ernakulam Vande Bharat Express, providing additional accommodation for passengers travelling between Karnataka and Kerala.
The expansion comes as the Railways continues to strengthen capacity on important inter-state routes. The Bengaluru-Kochi service connects two major cities and provides a faster rail travel option for passengers travelling between Bengaluru and Ernakulam.
With the train’s coach strength increasing from eight to 16, more passengers will be able to travel on the service without requiring an additional train on the same route.
Special Bengaluru-Kannur Train For Onam
Ahead of the Onam festive season, the Railway Board has also approved a special train between Bengaluru Cantonment and Kannur to cater to increased passenger demand.
Train number 06567 will depart from Bengaluru Cantonment at 10.30 pm on August 20 and is scheduled to reach Kannur at 12.50 pm on August 21.
The special service will provide an additional travel option for passengers heading towards northern Kerala during the festive period.
Return Service From Kannur On August 21
In the return direction, train number 06568 will leave Kannur at 4.10 pm on August 21 and reach Bengaluru Cantonment at 6 am the following morning.

Special Train To Stop At 14 Stations
The Bengaluru Cantonment-Kannur special train will make scheduled stops at several stations along the route. The stations are KR Puram, Bangarapet, Kuppam, Salem, Erode, Tiruppur, Podanur, Palakkad, Shoranur, Tirur, Parpanangadi, Kozhikode, Vadakara and Thalassery.
The extensive list of stops will allow passengers from several towns and cities in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala to use the special service during the Onam period.
With the Bengaluru-Ernakulam Vande Bharat Express also receiving additional coaches from August 17, the capacity enhancement and special service are expected to provide more options for passengers travelling between Bengaluru and Kerala during the festive season.
