Janmashtami celebrations are set to bring heavy crowds to temples across Delhi-NCR on Friday. Check the key road restrictions and alternate routes before you travel

With Janmashtami celebrations taking place across Delhi and Noida, traffic officials have urged commuters to avoid unnecessary travel through the affected areas, particularly during peak celebration hours.
Delhi-NCR Traffic: Janmashtami celebrations on Friday, September 4, are expected to draw thousands of devotees to temples across Delhi-NCR, prompting traffic restrictions and diversions in several areas. In Delhi, the Traffic Police has issued an advisory around the Khatu Shyam Delhi Dham Temple in Narela, where a large gathering is expected, as reported by NDTV. The restrictions will remain in place from 7 am on September 4 until 1 am on September 5.
The biggest impact is expected on NH-44 between Singhu Border and Mukarba Chowk, where heavy pedestrian movement could slow traffic considerably. Commuters have been advised to avoid this stretch wherever possible. Motorists travelling through the area can instead use UER-II and Palla-Bakhtawarpur Road to reduce the chances of getting caught in congestion.
Traffic diversions may be introduced at Singhu Border, Bakoli on UER-II and Mukarba Chowk depending on the crowd and traffic situation. Traffic personnel will be deployed at key points to regulate movement and direct motorists towards alternative routes.
The Traffic Police has also appealed to commuters and devotees not to park vehicles on roadsides. Officials warned that illegal or obstructive parking could further worsen congestion around the temple.
People travelling through the affected areas have been advised to plan their journeys in advance, follow diversion signs and cooperate with traffic personnel. Emergency vehicles, including ambulances and fire service vehicles, will be given unhindered passage while responding to emergencies, with bypass routes used wherever feasible.
Noida Roads To Face Restrictions Around ISKCON Temple
Noida is also preparing for heavy traffic around major temples, particularly the ISKCON Temple in Sector 33 and the Sanatan Dharma Temple in Sector 19, as reported by The Times of India. Traffic Police have announced extensive restrictions around the ISKCON temple as devotees are expected to gather in large numbers for Janmashtami celebrations.
Vehicle movement between the NTPC underpass and Gijhor intersections, as well as movement from Gijhor towards NTPC, will be restricted. Vehicles travelling from Gijhor towards the Atta underpass will have to take a left at Gijhor and proceed towards Hoshiarpur before turning right towards City Centre. Another diversion will allow motorists to turn right from Gijhor Chowk and travel via Samarville.
Devotees heading to the ISKCON Temple in Sector 33 will not be allowed to take their vehicles directly to the temple. They have been asked to park at the designated facility near the Adobe building and continue on foot.
Vehicles meant for the VVIP parking area can enter through the Sector 33-34 T-point and park at Shilp Haat before devotees proceed towards the temple on foot.
Several Noida Routes To Remain Closed
Commuters travelling from the Sector 25-31 intersection towards Sector 60, Sector 62, Indirapuram and Ghaziabad via Gijhor will also face a diversion. They will have to turn left at the Sector 25-31 T-point, take a right from Spice Mall and continue through the Adobe intersection, Sector 22 and the Sector 23-54 T-point before reaching Gijhor.
The elevated road, however, will continue to operate normally. Vehicles will not be permitted to enter or exit through the ISKCON/NTPC loops.
The Gijhor-ISKCON Temple route and the Sector 25-31 to Gijhor stretch will remain closed to vehicles until the celebrations conclude.
More Restrictions Possible If Crowds Increase
Traffic restrictions may also be imposed around the Sanatan Dharma Temple in Sector 19 if the number of devotees increases significantly.
In such a situation, traffic movement could be restricted between Sector 19-27 DM Chowk and Rai Residency, as well as from DM Chowk towards Telephone Exchange Road.
In Sector 2, authorities may also restrict movement between Sandeep Paper Mill Chowk and Golchakkar Chowk depending on the traffic situation.
Emergency vehicles, including ambulances and fire service vehicles, will be allowed through the restricted stretches.
Delhi-NCR Commuters Advised To Plan Ahead
With Janmashtami celebrations taking place across Delhi and Noida, traffic officials have urged commuters to avoid unnecessary travel through the affected areas, particularly during peak celebration hours.
Those who must travel through these stretches should leave early, check diversion signs and follow instructions from traffic personnel. The Delhi Traffic Police has also advised motorists to stay updated through its website, social-media handles, WhatsApp service and traffic helplines.
In Noida, commuters seeking assistance can contact the traffic helpline at 9971009001.
