Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG Gets 5-Star Bharat NCAP Safety Rating

Mahindra has confirmed that the CNG-powered XUV 3XO ZNG variants have secured a five-star safety rating under the Bharat New Car Assessment Program (Bharat NCAP). The latest assessment extends the SUV’s existing five-star crash safety credentials to its CNG versions, with the model recording 29.36 points out of 32 for adult occupant protection and 45 points out of 49 for child occupant protection.
The Mahindra XUV 3XO was originally crash-tested by Bharat NCAP in November 2024. At the time, the petrol and diesel variants received 29.36/32 points in adult occupant protection and 43/49 points in child occupant protection.
While the adult occupant protection score remains unchanged for the CNG version, the child occupant protection score has improved by two points. Interestingly, the revised child safety assessment also applies to certain petrol and diesel versions manufactured from a specified production batch.
Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG: Adult occupant protection results
In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, the XUV 3XO demonstrated good protection for the driver’s head, neck, pelvis and thighs. The chest received an adequate rating, while protection for the tibiae was rated adequate on one side and marginal on the other.
The front passenger, meanwhile, received good protection across all the body regions assessed during the test.
In the side movable deformable barrier assessment, the SUV delivered good protection across all evaluated body regions. The side pole impact test also resulted in good protection ratings.
The overall adult occupant protection score stands at 29.36 out of 32, matching the results previously recorded by the petrol and diesel versions.
Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG: Child occupant protection results
The CNG variant has secured 45 out of 49 points in the child occupant protection assessment, compared to the 43 points achieved by the earlier-tested versions.
During the original assessment, the XUV 3XO scored full marks in the dynamic crash tests involving both the 18-month-old and three-year-old child dummies. It secured eight points in the frontal impact test and four points in the side impact test for each dummy.
The SUV also achieved a perfect score of 24 out of 24 in the dynamic assessment and 12 out of 12 in the Child Restraint System (CRS) installation test.
However, it lost four points in the vehicle assessment, securing seven out of the available 13 points. This brought its overall child occupant protection score to 43/49.
With the latest assessment, the dynamic and CRS installation test results have been extended to vehicles manufactured from VIN MA1NS2NVPS2B98575 onwards. These vehicles now carry the revised child occupant protection score of 45/49.
The five-star Bharat NCAP rating adds another safety credential to the Mahindra XUV 3XO CNG. The latest results also highlight that the improved child occupant protection score is applicable to eligible petrol and diesel models from the specified production batch, rather than being exclusive to the newly introduced CNG variants.
