VinFast VF5 Facelift Design Patent Reveals New Details in India

VinFast’s VF5 electric SUV facelift has surfaced through a design patent filed in India, offering an early look at the changes planned for the updated model. While the filing does not confirm an India launch, previous test mule sightings suggest that the Vietnamese automaker could be evaluating the SUV for the Indian market.
The facelift has already been spotted without camouflage in Vietnam in September 2026, with the vehicle revealing several styling and cabin updates. If introduced in India, the updated VF5 could enter the compact electric SUV segment, where pricing and specifications will play an important role.
VinFast VF5 Facelift: Exterior Design Changes
The design patent indicates that the VF5 will receive a revised front fascia, featuring repositioned headlights, a redesigned bonnet and updated bumpers. The headlamps appear slimmer and sit lower than those on the current global-spec model. The black trim below them has also been revised, blending more closely with the lower bumper section.
The side profile is expected to remain largely unchanged, although the alloy wheel design appears to have been updated. The VF5 spotted in Vietnam featured 16-inch wheels, suggesting that the facelift may retain the existing wheel size.
VinFast VF5 Facelift: Interior Updates
The facelift is expected to feature a more upright dashboard, a larger freestanding infotainment touchscreen and a redesigned two-spoke steering wheel with flattened upper and lower sections.
A separate instrument cluster does not appear to be present. Instead, the central touchscreen is expected to display driving information alongside infotainment functions.
The centre console also appears to have been revised, with more pronounced styling elements, a rotary drive selector and two cup holders. The cabin of the test vehicle featured black upholstery, while the seats appeared to use leatherette instead of the fabric upholstery offered on the current Vietnam-spec model.
It remains to be seen which of these changes will be carried over to an India-spec version, should VinFast decide to launch the facelift here.
VinFast VF5 Facelift: Battery, Motor and Range
The VF5 is offered with different powertrain configurations across international markets. In Indonesia, the electric SUV uses a 29.6kWh battery pack paired with a front-mounted electric motor producing 90 HP and 135 Nm. This version has a claimed NEDC range of 268 km.
In other markets, the VF5 is available with a larger 37.23kWh battery pack. This version uses a front-mounted electric motor producing 136 HP and 135 Nm, with a claimed NEDC range of 326 km.
These figures relate to existing international versions of the VF5 and do not confirm the specifications of the facelift or a potential India-spec model. Battery capacity, motor output and driving range for India remain unannounced.
VinFast VF5 Facelift: Expected Price and Rivals in India
If launched in India, the VinFast VF5 facelift is expected to be priced at around Rs. 12 lakhs (ex-showroom). At this price point, it could compete with the Tata Punch EV, which is priced between Rs. 9.79 lakhs and Rs. 12.99 lakhs, depending on the variant.
Depending on its final positioning and specifications, the VF5 could also overlap with the Tata Nexon EV, priced between Rs. 12.49 lakhs and Rs. 17.69 lakhs, and the Mahindra XUV 3XO EV, priced between Rs. 13.89 lakhs and Rs. 14.96 lakhs.
However, the extent of this competition will depend on the battery pack, range, equipment and variant structure offered in India. VinFast has not yet confirmed the launch timeline, pricing or specifications of the facelifted VF5 for the Indian market.
