Tata Motors, Stellantis Expand Partnership Into Vehicle Technology

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (TMPV), Tata Passenger Electric Mobility (TPEM) and Stellantis India have signed a definitive agreement to expand their existing strategic partnership into advanced vehicle technology and product collaboration.
The agreement builds on a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by the companies in February 2026. While the earlier agreement explored cooperation across manufacturing, engineering and supply chain operations in India and overseas, the latest deal establishes a more specific framework around vehicle technology and architecture.
Tata Motors to provide vehicle architecture to Stellantis
Under the new agreement, TMPV will provide Stellantis with access to its product technology and vehicle architectures. Stellantis will use these capabilities alongside its product development and engineering expertise in India to develop vehicles aimed at more than 50 global markets.
The products will be adapted to meet different customer requirements as well as regulatory and operating conditions across these markets.
The agreement does not specify the vehicle models or technologies that will be developed under the partnership at this stage.
Vehicles to be manufactured in India
Vehicles developed through the collaboration will be manufactured in India at Fiat India Automobiles Private Limited (FIAPL). The company is a 50:50 joint venture between Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Stellantis.
The companies say the partnership will make use of India’s engineering capabilities and manufacturing capacity, with an emphasis on supporting exports. It also expands the scope of the relationship beyond manufacturing and supply-chain cooperation into product development and vehicle architecture.
The agreement is expected to give Stellantis greater access to Tata Motors’ India-developed technology while allowing it to use its global engineering and product development capabilities for international markets.
Partnership builds on February 2026 MoU
The latest agreement follows an MoU signed in February 2026 covering potential collaboration in areas including manufacturing, engineering and supply chain operations in India and overseas.
The definitive agreement converts that broader intent into a specific collaboration covering product technology and vehicle architecture. Both companies are positioning India as an important base for vehicle development and manufacturing for export markets.
Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director and CEO of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, said the partnership has developed over more than two decades and that the latest agreement extends the relationship into advanced vehicle technology and architecture.
Tianshu Xin, Chief Operating Officer of Stellantis’ Asia-Pacific region, said the collaboration would combine Tata Motors’ capabilities in India with Stellantis’ global product development and market reach.
What this means for Stellantis and Tata Motors
For Stellantis, the partnership provides access to Tata Motors’ product technology and vehicle architectures developed in India, while its own engineering and global market expertise can be used to adapt these products for international markets.
For Tata Motors, the arrangement provides an opportunity to extend the use of its technology and architectures beyond its own product portfolio and into vehicles intended for global markets.
Stellantis currently operates a portfolio of 14 automotive brands and has a presence across Europe, North America, South America, the Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific. The companies say combining this global footprint with Tata Motors’ technology and manufacturing capabilities could support the development and production of vehicles in India for export markets.
The agreement therefore represents a broader phase of the Tata Motors-Stellantis relationship, although details about the first products, launch timelines and specific technologies covered by the collaboration have not yet been disclosed.
