Indian Railways News: Pune residents planning to travel by train during the Ganesh Chaturthi festival should check their train schedules carefully, as railway authorities have announced a 15-day mega block that will significantly affect services across the Pune division.

The block is being undertaken for major construction work related to the third railway line between Hadapsar and the Ghorpadi Coach Maintenance Complex (GCMC). Work will be carried out in the Pune and Hadapsar yards from September 19 to October 4.

The extended block is expected to disrupt Mail-Express, DEMU and local train services, with several trains cancelled, diverted or regulated during the period.

42 Trains Cancelled, 25 Diverted

According to the railway schedule for the mega block, 42 Mail-Express and passenger trains have been completely cancelled. These cancellations will affect 98 services or routes. Another 25 trains will be diverted, affecting 36 of their routes.

The disruption does not end there. Thirty-five trains will either terminate before their scheduled destinations or be diverted to other stations, while regulations have been imposed on 22 trains. The schedules of another 14 trains have also been changed.

With multiple categories of changes being introduced simultaneously, passengers travelling during the Ganesh Chaturthi period could face significant changes to their usual train timings, routes and boarding or alighting stations.

Pune-Mumbai, Pune-Solapur Routes Among Those Affected

The mega block will have an impact on trains operating on several important routes from Pune. Express services on the Pune-Mumbai, Pune-Solapur, Pune-Nagpur and Pune-Howrah routes will remain affected during the block period.

Passengers travelling between Pune and Mumbai, in particular, are advised to check their individual train status before leaving for the station, as cancellations, diversions and changes in originating or terminating stations may affect their journey plans.

September 19 To 23: Afternoon Block On Pune-Hadapsar Line

The first phase of the work will begin on September 19. From September 19 to September 23, a block will be imposed on the Pune-Hadapsar up and down main lines every day between 12 noon and 5 pm.

The railway administration has indicated that the duration of this block will be reduced from September 24 onwards.

Passengers using the Pune-Hadapsar section during these hours should therefore expect changes to regular train operations.

October 3: Hadapsar Yard Work

Further work is scheduled at the Hadapsar Yard on October 3. The block will be implemented from 8 am to 12 noon and again from 12 noon to 4 pm.

The work forms part of the larger project connected with construction of the third railway line between Hadapsar and the Ghorpadi Coach Maintenance Complex.

October 4: Main Working Day With Extended Railway Block

The most significant phase of the work is scheduled for October 4, which has been designated as the main working day. A railway block will remain in place from midnight until 10:30 am on October 4.

After this, work related to the signal and telecommunication systems will be carried out between 10:30 am and 6:30 pm.

The extended working hours on October 4 mean that passengers travelling through the affected section should be particularly careful while planning their journeys.

Passengers Advised To Check Before Travelling

The mega block comes during the Ganesh Chaturthi travel period, when large numbers of people are expected to use trains to travel within Maharashtra and to other parts of the country.

With 42 trains cancelled, 25 diverted and several others facing changes to their originating, terminating or scheduled stations, passengers could find that their usual service is unavailable or operating differently. The railway administration has therefore appealed to passengers to check train schedules, cancellations, diversions and rerouting information before planning their journey during the block period.

Travellers should also check whether their train will originate from or terminate at a different station, particularly where services have been regulated or their routes altered.

The mega block is being carried out to facilitate important infrastructure work for the third railway line between Hadapsar and Ghorpadi Coach Maintenance Complex. While the work is expected to cause substantial short-term disruption, the railway authorities are undertaking it as part of the expansion and improvement of rail infrastructure in the Pune division.

For passengers travelling during Ganesh Chaturthi, however, the immediate message is clear: do not rely on the usual timetable. Check your train’s latest status before heading to the station.
