Pune Traffic News: The city will see traffic restrictions and diversions on September 4 and 5 as Dahi Handi celebrations for Shri Krishna Janmashtami are expected to draw large crowds across the city. The Pune Traffic Police have announced temporary measures to manage vehicle movement and reduce congestion around major celebration venues.
In the Phadke Houd area, traffic restrictions will reportedly come into force on September 4 from 4 pm and will remain in place until the crowd disperses. Vehicles approaching areas such as Jijamata Chowk, Sonya Maruti Chowk and Ganesh Road may be diverted through alternative routes depending on the movement of people and traffic conditions.
Similar restrictions have been announced on Shivarkar Road on September 5. The curbs will begin at 4 pm and continue until the celebrations and crowd movement subside.
Motorists have been advised to use alternative routes through Constitution Chowk, Salunke Vihar Road and Flower Valley Lane to avoid the affected stretch.
More Roads May Face Diversions
Traffic arrangements have also been made across the jurisdictions of the Lashkar, Warje, Samarth, Bund Garden and Kalepadal traffic divisions. Depending on the size of the crowds, traffic police may introduce diversions at several locations. Some roads could also be temporarily converted into one-way stretches or closed to vehicles if required.
The measures are aimed at maintaining traffic flow while ensuring that emergency vehicles can move through the affected areas without disruption.
Pune Traffic Police Advise Commuters To Use Public Transport
Citizens have been advised to use public transport wherever possible and avoid roads where restrictions are in force. Motorists travelling through the affected areas have been asked to follow the designated diversions and plan their journeys in advance.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Dr Sandeep Bhajibhakare has appealed to citizens to cooperate with traffic personnel and follow the temporary arrangements during the Dahi Handi celebrations.
With gatherings expected at several locations across Pune, commuters have also been advised to allow extra travel time, particularly during the evening hours.
