Milestone of over 1 lakh exports of Jimny, FRONX, and e VITARA to Japan is powerful endorsement of India’s manufacturing excellence, says Maruti Suzuki India CEO Hisashi Takeuchi.

Vehicles manufactured by Maruti Suzuki accounted for nearly 100% of Suzuki’s vehicle imports into Japan during the last financial year.

Maruti Suzuki India on Monday said exports of its India-made Jimny 5-door, Fronx and e Vitara to Japan have crossed the 1 lakh-unit mark, highlighting the growing acceptance of Indian-manufactured vehicles in one of the world’s most competitive automobile markets.

The company started exporting the Fronx to Japan in August 2024, followed by the Jimny 5-door in December 2024. Maruti Suzuki’s first battery electric vehicle (BEV), the e Vitara, was added to the export portfolio in September 2025.

The Jimny 5-door and e Vitara are manufactured exclusively in India.

Japan has emerged as Maruti Suzuki’s second-largest export market by volume in FY26. The country has retained the position during the first five months of the current financial year, from April to August 2026, the automaker said.

“The milestone of over 1 lakh exports of Jimny 5-door, FRONX, and e VITARA to Japan is a powerful endorsement of India’s manufacturing excellence. This achievement is particularly significant as Japan is one of the world’s most demanding and advanced automobile markets,” said Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO, Maruti Suzuki India.

The company said the strong performance of the Jimny 5-door, Fronx and e Vitara in Japan has also helped Suzuki Motor Corporation become the largest vehicle importer in Japan in the previous financial year.

Vehicles manufactured by Maruti Suzuki accounted for nearly 100% of Suzuki’s vehicle imports into Japan during the last financial year, the company added.

The milestone also underscores the growing manufacturing and business ties between India and Japan, with vehicles produced in India gaining acceptance among Japanese consumers.

“The export milestone also symbolises the remarkable evolution of the India-Japan partnership. What began as Suzuki’s vision to manufacture automobiles in India has come full circle, with Made-in-India vehicles finding strong acceptance among Japanese customers. This success has helped Japan emerge as the second-biggest market for Maruti Suzuki exports,” Takeuchi said.

The company said the growing exports to Japan further strengthen India’s position as a global manufacturing base for Suzuki.
