Known for his simple political image, Kejriwal responded with his trademark straightforwardness when asked about the hatchback that became closely associated with his early political career. His remarks quickly caught attention online, with clips from the podcast and memes about the iconic car spreading across social media.
For many, the blue Wagon R represents more than an old hatchback. It became closely linked with Kejriwal’s grassroots political image and stood in contrast to the expensive cars often associated with politicians.

Kejriwal said, “We used it after the first election, but later it got condemned. After 2015, I started using the official vehicle. Since then, AAP members began using the car for official purposes.”
The revelation quickly caught the attention of social media users, reviving memories of the hatchback and its association with the early years of the AAP.
The Car That Became AAP’s First Election Symbol
The blue Wagon R rose to prominence during the AAP’s debut in the 2013 Delhi Assembly elections, when the relatively new party made a dramatic entry into the capital’s political landscape.
The AAP won 28 seats in the 70-member Delhi Assembly and formed a minority government with outside support from the Congress.
Kejriwal himself defeated three-time Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit in the New Delhi constituency by more than 22,000 votes. The victory helped establish him as a major political figure and turned the humble blue hatchback into part of the story surrounding his rise.
