Ravindra Chavan urged railway officials to address concerns raised by passenger representatives and explore possible measures to improve the commuting experience.
Mumbai News Update: With overcrowding, delays and connectivity emerging as key concerns for suburban railway commuters across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, Maharashtra BJP president and MLA Ravindra Chavan has urged Central Railway to consider additional local train services from Dombivli, Diva and Nilje.
Ravindra Chavan met Central Railway Divisional Railway Manager Hiresh Meena at the railway headquarters at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai to discuss commuting difficulties in the Kalyan-Dombivli belt. The discussions focused on peak-hour connectivity, passenger safety, crowd management and delays affecting daily travel.
Nilje-Mumbai Local Every Hour Among Key Demands
One of the key demands was to introduce a local train service from Nilje station to Mumbai every hour during peak hours. Commuters have also sought direct local train services to Mumbai from Dombivli and Diva during periods of heavy rush to ease congestion and make daily journeys more convenient.
The demands come amid continued residential development across Kalyan-Dombivli and neighbouring areas, which has increased pressure on transport infrastructure. For residents of expanding housing clusters, reliable suburban rail connectivity remains essential, particularly during the morning and evening peak hours.
Ravindra Chavan urged railway officials to address concerns raised by passenger representatives and explore possible measures to improve the commuting experience. Passenger safety, station crowd management and delays in local train operations were also discussed. However, the railway administration has yet to confirm whether the proposed services will be introduced.
Commuter Groups Push For Better Connectivity
The meeting followed an interaction on September 26, when representatives of railway passenger organisations met Ravindra Chavan to present their grievances. Satish Singh, representing the Casa Rio and Casa Rio Gold cooperative housing societies federation in Lodha Palava, was also present during discussions with railway officials.
The latest intervention is part of wider engagement between Ravindra Chavan and commuter groups across the Thane-Mumbai region. Representatives of 48 passenger organisations had earlier met the BJP state president at Dombivli Gymkhana to raise concerns about suburban railway capacity, passenger safety and direct connectivity.
Railway Approval Key To Additional Local Services
Turning these demands into operational changes will require railway approval, timetable adjustments and detailed planning. The feasibility of additional services will depend on the administration’s assessment of operational requirements and available capacity.
For commuters in Dombivli, Diva and Nilje, the key question is whether the intervention will lead to more frequent services, shorter waiting times, improved crowd management and safer journeys. Until Central Railway announces a decision, the proposed services remain demands rather than confirmed additions to the suburban timetable.
