Indian Railways has cancelled several trains on October 9 and 10 amid anticipated traffic congestion in Delhi due to a planned CJP protest.
Indian Railways has cancelled several train services scheduled to reach New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations during a 10-hour window on Saturday, October 10, amid the anticipated traffic disruption surrounding a planned protest in the national capital.
According to a report by The Indian Express, a senior railway official confirmed that the cancellations would affect services during the period from 4 am to 2 pm on October 10. The decision follows concerns about severe road congestion around the two stations during a planned protest by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and other Opposition groups.
However, the cancellation order specifically covers Mail and Express trains departing from their originating stations after 2 pm on Friday, October 9, and scheduled to arrive at either New Delhi Railway Station (NDLS) or Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station between 4 am and 2 pm on Saturday. These trains are to be cancelled at their source stations.
The Ministry of Railways cited intelligence inputs and a traffic advisory warning of severe congestion around both railway stations. The precautionary measure aims to reduce passenger inconvenience and prevent travellers from being stranded because of road disruptions. The railway official also told that around 5,000 passengers had missed their trains on Thursday, October 8, amid the disruption.
