Now Book Train Tickets, Check PNR And Get A Ride In One App

Uber is expanding its services in India beyond cabs and road transport, allowing users to search and book train tickets directly through the Uber app. The ride-hailing company has partnered with travel platform ixigo for the new train-ticketing service. Users can now search for trains, book tickets, check their PNR status and arrange an Uber ride to or from the railway station without leaving the app. The move is part of Uber’s wider push to become a one-stop mobility platform, bringing different modes of transport together in one place.

How Does Uber Train Booking Work? The train-ticketing service is powered by ixigo. To book a ticket, users can open the Uber app and select ‘Bus & Train’ from the home screen or go to the Services section. They can then enter their departure station, destination and travel date. The app will show available trains, allowing users to select a service and complete the booking. Once the ticket is booked, passengers can access their ticket details and PNR status through the Uber app.

You Can Book A Cab To The Station Too: Uber’s new feature is designed to cover more than just the train journey. After booking a train ticket, users can separately book an Uber ride to the railway station. Once they reach their destination, they can also book another Uber to travel from the station to their final destination. This means passengers can potentially plan the entire journey – home to station, train journey and station to destination – through the same app.

Why Is Uber Adding Train Tickets? Train travel is a major part of India’s transport network, and Uber sees an opportunity to connect it with its existing mobility services. Arnab Kumar, Director, Business Development, Uber India and South Asia, said train journeys are an important part of how people travel in India. He said the new service aims to address the parts of the journey that happen before passengers board a train and after they get off. For ixigo, the partnership brings its train-ticketing technology to another large consumer platform. Group CEO Aloke Bajpai and Group Co-CEO Rajnish Kumar said ixigo has been focusing not only on ticket bookings but also on post-booking support and other travel-related services.

Uber Is Expanding Beyond Cabs: The train-ticketing feature comes as Uber expands its presence across different forms of transport in India. The company already offers Moto, Auto, Cars, Metro, Intercity Cars and Intercity Buses. Earlier this year, ixigo’s AbhiBus partnered with Uber to bring intercity bus bookings to the Uber app. Uber has also been working to improve connectivity at railway stations, including pickup and drop-off zones at several major stations. With train tickets now added, the company is moving further towards bringing road, rail and public transport options together on one platform.

India Has A Huge Train Travel Market: The scale of India’s railway network makes train bookings an important market for travel platforms. Uber said Indian Railways carried 741 crore passengers during FY2025-26, underlining the size of the passenger base the new partnership is targeting. For Uber users, the change means the app is becoming more than a platform for booking a cab – it can now help plan a much larger part of a train journey, from getting to the station to reaching the final destination.
