Mumbai Traffic Update: The temporary restrictions are intended to manage traffic around the Dahi Handi celebrations and facilitate the movement of emergency and regular traffic in the affected areas.
Mumbai Traffic Alert: Mumbai Traffic Police have announced temporary traffic restrictions in Bandra and Ghatkopar ahead of Dahi Handi 2026 celebrations on Saturday, September 5, 2026.
The restrictions are being introduced to manage the expected crowds and maintain the safety of motorists and pedestrians. While traffic movement will be affected at different times and locations, motorists have been advised to plan their journeys and follow the prescribed diversion routes.
Bandra Traffic Restrictions From 5 Pm To 11 Pm
According to a traffic notification issued by Dr Dipali Dhate, Deputy Commissioner of Police (HQ & Central), Traffic, a stage will be erected on Jarimari Road under the Bandra Traffic Division for the Dahi Handi programme.
Due to the expected gathering, vehicular movement on the affected stretch will be restricted from 5 pm to 11 pm on September 5. The traffic arrangements have been implemented under Section 115 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
Vehicles Heading Towards Hill Road To Be Diverted
Vehicles travelling southbound on SV Road towards Hill Road through Jarimari Road will not be permitted to enter Jarimari Road during the restriction period.
Motorists travelling towards Hill Road will instead be required to take a U-turn at Vitthal Mandir Signal and proceed northbound on SV Road. They will then have to turn left onto Dr V Raghunath Marg and continue towards St Martin Road before reaching Hill Road.
The traffic police have advised motorists to factor in the restrictions while planning their journeys and follow the designated diversion route.
Ghatkopar Link Road To Remain Closed On September 5
In a separate notification issued last week, Mumbai Traffic Police announced a longer road closure on the Andheri-Ghatkopar Link Road in Ghatkopar for another Dahi Handi event.
The south channel of the Andheri-Ghatkopar Link Road between Shreyas Junction and Bhimnagar Junction will remain closed to all types of vehicles from 7 am to 11.30 pm on September 5.
The closure has been announced as a large Dahi Handi programme is scheduled at Tilak Wadi, Sainath Nagar, Ghatkopar-Andheri Link Road, Ghatkopar (West).
Authorities expect the event to affect traffic movement in the area, prompting the temporary closure of the south channel.
Vehicles From Shreyas Junction To Asalpha To Take Alternate Route
Vehicles travelling from Shreyas Junction towards Asalpha that would normally use the south channel of the Andheri-Ghatkopar Link Road will have to take an alternative route.
Motorists will be directed through the south channel of Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg and will then take a right turn at Sarvodaya Junction.
From there, they will proceed via Hirachand Desai Road towards Asalpha before rejoining the Andheri-Ghatkopar Link Road.
Motorists Advised To Plan Journeys
The Mumbai Traffic Police have advised motorists travelling through Bandra and Ghatkopar on September 5 to plan their journeys in advance and use the prescribed alternative routes.
The temporary restrictions are intended to manage traffic around the Dahi Handi celebrations and facilitate the movement of emergency and regular traffic in the affected areas.
