The electric motorcycle space in India is growing steadily, and Royal Enfield has now stepped in with the Flying Flea C6. While competition in this segment is still limited, it goes up against rivals like the Matter Aera 5000+. Here’s a quick look at how the two compare on paper.

RE Flying Flea C6 vs Matter Aera 5000+: Battery and range

The Matter Aera 5000+ is powered by a motor producing 11.5 kW, which translates to roughly 15.4 hp. It also gets a 4-speed gearbox, something unique in the EV space. In comparison, the Flying Flea C6 makes around 20.6 hp and 60 Nm of peak torque. Battery and range is another key differentiator. The Aera 5000+ packs a 5 kWh battery and claims an IDC range of 172 km. Normal charging takes about 5 hours whereas fast charging takes around 1.5 hours for a 0-80 percent top up. The Flying Flea C6, on the other hand, gets a 3.91 kWh battery pack delivering an IDC range of 154 km. It also supports relatively quick charging, with 20-80 percent taking around 65 minutes.

On the hardware front, the Flying Flea C6 comes across as quite serious. It features a girder-type front suspension, monoshock at the rear, 19-inch wheels at both ends, and dual-channel ABS with lean-sensitive traction control. It weighs just 124 kg, making it fairly light. On the other hand, the Matter Aera 5000+ gets telescopic front forks and adjustable twin rear shocks, while braking duties are handled by a 270 mm front disc and a 220 mm rear disc with single-channel ABS and regenerative braking.Features are where things get interesting. The Flying Flea C6 arguably takes the lead with a more advanced electronics package, including a circular TFT console with smartphone connectivity, multiple ride modes, traction control, cornering ABS and even cruise control.

The Matter Aera 5000+ comes with a 7-inch LCD capacitive touchscreen with 4G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, offering navigation, music and call alerts. The system is backed by a 9-axis IMU, OTA updates and a dedicated smartphone app for ride stats, geo-fencing and vehicle health monitoring. What really sets it apart is the 4-speed manual gearbox paired with a clutch.

In terms of pricing, the Matter Aera range undercuts the competition. The Aera 5000 is priced at Rs 1.81 lakh, while the Aera 5000+ comes in at Rs 1.93 lakh, both ex-showroom. In comparison, the Royal Enfield Flying Flea C6 is positioned significantly higher at Rs 2.79 lakh, ex-showroom. However, with the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) option, the effective starting price drops to around Rs 1.99 lakh, bringing it closer to the Aera 5000+.
